Michael Smales

Michael Smales has a strong background in business operations and consulting. Michael is currently working as the Business Operations Lead at Metabase. Prior to this, they held the role of Vice President of Business Operations at Beyond, where they led business intelligence and revenue operations and successfully scaled the team. Michael also managed operational projects and owned operational reporting. Before Beyond, Michael worked as a Business Operations Consultant at Smales Consulting, where they supported companies such as Mollie B.V. and a leading European private equity fund with sales operations planning and due diligence research. Michael also has experience as a Chief Operating Officer at Keyhole and as an Investment Team Manager at National Grid. Michael's earlier experience includes working as a Senior Associate and Summer Associate at McKinsey & Company, pursuing an MBA at London Business School, and working as a Senior Structural/Civil Engineer at ScottishPower Renewables and Ramboll. Michael started their career as a Graduate Engineer at Jenkins & Potter.

Michael Smales has a diverse education history. Michael obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from London Business School between 2013 and 2015. Prior to that, they pursued a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Structural Engineering from Imperial College London from 2006 to 2007. Their Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Physics was earned from the University of Bristol, which they attended from 2001 to 2004.

In addition to their formal education, Michael has also acquired various certifications. Michael completed the "Programming for Data Science with Python Nanodegree" from Udacity in July 2021. Earlier, in February 2021, they obtained an "Intro to Programming Nanodegree" from the same institution. Furthermore, they became a Chartered Civil Engineer certified by the Engineering Council in May 2011.
