Ray Miller

Principal DevOps Engineer at Metail

Ray Miller has worked in a variety of roles throughout their career. From 1998 to 1999, they worked as an Analyst/Programmer at Unisys. From 1999 to 2008, they worked as a Systems Development & Support Section manager at the University of Oxford. From 2005 to 2008, they were the Council Chairman of the UK Unix Users Group. During this time, they also worked as a Commis Chef at The Kingham Plough from 2008 to 2009. From 2009 to 2013, they were a Senior Software Developer at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute. Finally, from 2013 to the present, they have been a Principal DevOps Engineer at Metail, managing their infrastructure in the cloud and providing an architecture lead to the development team. Ray has also been using Ansible, Terraform, Packer, Prometheus on a day-to-day basis and has kept a hand in with Clojure development, some Go, and a little bit of Python.

Ray Miller obtained their PhD in Algebraic Number Theory from the University of Exeter between 1990 and 1996. Ray has also obtained five certifications from Coursera, including Introduction to TensorFlow for Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning (November 2019), Improving Deep Neural Networks: Hyperparameter tuning, Regularization and Optimization (October 2019), Structuring Machine Learning Projects (October 2019), Neural Networks and Deep Learning (September 2019), and Machine Learning (July 2019).
