Michael Chen

Michael Chen is a professional with extensive experience in software engineering and research. Currently serving as a member of the policy staff and research fellow at METR since April 2024, Michael previously contributed as a software engineer at Stripe, where development of AI-powered Stripe Docs garnered significant recognition. Michael's earlier experience includes a research internship at the Center for Human-Compatible AI, where crowdsourced data was utilized to train language models, and a research assistant role at Georgia Institute of Technology, focusing on neural network applications in photonics. Additional software engineering roles included internships at NCR Corporation and involvement with Bits of Good as an engineering manager, directing a team in developing a food rescue application. Michael holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Georgia Institute of Technology and graduated from Hunter College High School.
