Tom Cunningham is an accomplished researcher and data scientist with extensive experience across various prestigious organizations. Currently serving as a Researcher at METR since October 2025, Tom previously worked at OpenAI as a Data Scientist from December 2023 to November 2025. Prior roles include Sr Staff Data Scientist at Twitter and Economist/Data Scientist at Facebook, along with academic positions as an Assistant Professor at Stockholm University and various postdoctoral roles at Tel Aviv University, Harvard University, and the London School of Economics and Political Science. Tom holds a MRes/PhD in Economics and an MSc in Economics from the London School of Economics, as well as a Bachelor of Arts with honors in Philosophy from the University of Otago.
