Sharon Stash

Sharon Stash, Ph.D., M.Sc. has over 25 years of experience in public health and research organizations, providing leadership in program management, technical support, implementation science, population research, and policy analysis. Sharon has delivered results in Africa, South Asia, and the Caribbean.

As Health Practice Director for the U.S. and UK, Sharon was the senior-most leader of programs with over 120 employees, optimizing budgets totaling more than $150M. On the ground floor of both the Gates and Packard Foundations, Sharon contributed to the strategic directions of HIV and reproductive health portfolios, delivering the technical strategy for the Avahan HIV prevention project, India. An epidemiologist and demographer known for her technical expertise, she was the Senior Technical Advisor for USAID's flagship knowledge management project and developed a leading online HIV prevention resource. As Project Director for three bilateral projects, Sharon streamlined field implementation, improved client relations, and delivered results.

Sharon influences international policy and technical platforms through leadership and service activities. As Senior Fellow, CSIS, and faculty member, Georgetown University, she wrote policy briefs for the Obama Administration and led expert working groups and delegations to Africa. Sharon teaches Global Health Policy, and Practice in the Walsh School of Foreign Service while providing consultancy services to health. An expert presenter and writer, she has published journal articles, policy briefs, monitoring and evaluation, and other reports. Beginning as a volunteer in Nepal, Sharon served on the Board of Directors of the National Peace Corps Association, and continues to serve on other technical advisory boards.
