Introducing the Research Training Group 2341 “Microbial Substrate Conversion (MiCon)” 

Microbes dominate our planet, not just in numbers, but through their remarkable metabolic versatility. Their ability to thrive in diverse environments is powered by complex primary and secondary metabolic pathways, many of which hold great promise for biotechnology and medicine.

At MiCon, we’re exploring the mechanistic principles behind microbial metabolism at the molecular level. Our interdisciplinary research focuses on:

🧪 Selective (Chemo-)Enzymatic conversion of small organic substrates
🧬 Conversion of small inorganic compounds
🌿 Biosynthesis of specialized metabolites

Our goal is to uncover fundamental insights while paving the way for future applications in biotechnology and healthcare. We welcome collaboration across disciplines, from biochemistry to structural biology, systems biology, and synthetic biology, to better understand and harness microbial capabilities.
