Michael Hasselbeck is a sensor-technology researcher and entrepreneur who specializes in laser physics, optics, photonics, semiconductors, instrumentation, embedded firmware, electronics, and proposal writing. They are the Director of R&D at Colca (2021–Present) and the owner of MicroPhonon (2014–Present), developing technology for acoustic water leak detection. Hasselbeck retired from the University of New Mexico's Department of Physics and Astronomy in 2019 after a career that included senior staff scientist responsibilities (2001–2019) and earlier roles at Hughes Aircraft Company, USAF Research Labs, and the Max Born Institute. They earned a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Central Florida (1992–1995) and BS & MS in Electrical Engineering from the University at Buffalo (1977–1983, magna cum laude).
