Alaa Shafaee is a Principal Software Engineering Lead at Microsoft, where they have been instrumental since 2015 in developing core backend, frontend, and mobile components for multiple projects, including Bing for Commerce and Bing Custom Search. Currently, they oversee the scalable document understanding pipeline and associated features for Bing for Commerce. Alaa holds a Master’s degree in Machine Learning from Georgia Tech, earned in 2019, and has prior experience as a Scrum Master and software engineer intern. They began their career at the German University in Cairo and contributed to research at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence.
