Burton Davis is a Vice President and Deputy General Counsel in Microsoft's Legal Affairs group, where they currently lead the Intellectual Property Group, overseeing company strategy in patents, copyright, open data, and open source. Since joining Microsoft in 2003, Burton has held various roles, offering strategic legal support for Azure cloud services and guiding teams on issues such as regulatory compliance and commercial partnerships. Prior to Microsoft, Burton practiced law at Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton and served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable T.S. Ellis, III of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. They earned a Doctor of Law degree from Yale Law School in 1996 and a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1992.
