Mirasol Agrivoltaic is a rural Colorado 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded to develop community solar projects that enhance agricultural productivity, support local food systems, and strengthen community resilience in the North Fork Valley of Western Colorado.

The North Fork Valley sits at the intersection of multiple rural challenges: a coal-transition economy, a high-elevation agricultural region facing increasing water scarcity and climate volatility, and a community with a deep, multigenerational farming identity. It is also home to significant immigrant and farmworker populations whose access to affordable energy and fresh food remains limited. Our work is designed to address these intersecting challenges together.

Our current project focus is on the Thistle Whistle Community Solar project. Mirasol received predevelopment funding for this project through CO Farm and Food Alliance's DEA Community Power Accelerator Prize Award in 2025. The project's host site, Thistle Whistle Farm, is a 15-acre diversified organic farm in Hotchkiss now in its 21st season. The farm serves as both our primary implementation site and the proof of concept for an agrivoltaic model we aim to replicate in rural communities facing similar pressures.
