Andy Carle

Andy Carle has a long and varied work experience. Andy began their career in 2001 as a Research Assistant at the University of Missouri, where they collaborated with a research team in Computer Vision and built graphical user interfaces using OpenGL and C. In 2002, they became a Technical Student Assistant at the University of Missouri, creating Java applications and user interfaces to support the Computer Vision research group. Andy then served as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant in the same university, holding labs and office hours for an introductory Java programming course. In 2004, they joined UC Berkeley as a Human-Computer Interaction PhD Candidate, where they worked with Professor John Canny and Senior Lecturer Mike Clancy, researching human-computer interaction, instructional and educational technologies, design tools, and human learning. Andy also served as an Instructor and Head Teaching Assistant for UC Berkeley's undergraduate machine structures course. In 2011, they joined Marvell Semiconductor's Kinoma Team as a User Experience & Developer Education Intern, where they planned and conducted user studies on Kinoma Play for Android and designed an annotation mechanism and presentation model to teach developers how to build Kinoma apps. Andy was later promoted to Director, where they were the project lead for Kinoma Create and was also responsible for the overall design, engineering, and outreach efforts for Kinoma Create. In 2015, they joined UC Berkeley's EECS Department as a Lecturer, teaching CS160: User Interface Design. Finally, in 2017, they became the Co-Founder of Moddable.

Andy Carle received a BS in Computer Science from the University of Missouri-Columbia between 2001 and 2004. Andy then went on to receive a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley between 2004 and 2012.
