James Nelson is a genome editing innovator and RNA biochemist currently serving as a Principal Scientist in Gene Editing System Discovery at Moderna. Previously, they held the position of Senior Scientist at Moderna and completed postdoctoral research at Yale University and the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. At Yale, they worked on riboswitch discovery and validation, while at the Broad Institute, they developed engineered prime editing guide RNAs to enhance editing efficiency. James holds a Bachelor's Degree in Biochemistry from the University of Delaware and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Yale University.
