Simone Cocchi

Simon Buckingham Shum is an accomplished researcher and educator specializing in Learning Informatics and digital education. Currently serving as a STRIx Researcher in the Digital Education Futures Initiative at the University of Cambridge since March 2025 and as a Professor of Learning Informatics and Director of the Connected Intelligence Centre at the University of Technology Sydney since August 2014, Simon leads research and development in human-centred Learning Analytics and AI in education. Notable past positions include Professor and Associate Director at The Open University's Knowledge Media Institute, where Simon directed the SocialLearn project and led significant research initiatives in hypermedia and discourse. With a background in psychology, Simon holds a Ph.D. in Human-Computer Interaction from the University of York and has contributed to various educational institutions and initiatives throughout a distinguished career in learning technology.
