Modus Studio
Mathew Smith is an experienced design professional currently serving as Design Manager at Modus Studio since January 2022. Prior to this role, Mathew worked as a Project Designer at TMPartners, PLLC from July 2017 to December 2021. Mathew has also contributed to academia as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Tennessee's College of Architecture and Design, where responsibilities included teaching construction materials and methods. Mathew pursued graduate studies at the University of Tennessee, earning a Master of Architecture (M.Arch.) while also serving as a Graduate Research Assistant, focusing on electronic drawing techniques and creating tutorial databases. Earlier experience includes internships and positions at McCarty Holsaple McCarty, Aflac, Shields and Associates, and pb2 Architecture & Engineering. Education includes a BA in Art History and French from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

modus studio is an idea. It is an idea that the patterns, perceptions, senses, and notions of our daily experiences can create a process, a way to do things, which leads to architecture and good design. This conception is the process which allows departure from the general rule of form to create thoughtful architecture that begins to shape the present landscape and plan for a sustainable future. Our firm seeks to operate in a modern format, a studio atmosphere, where ideas and exchange are essential to our process. We are passionately connected to our work and we believe in the work we produce. We provide a fresh, energetic focus and approach to design. Times are changing, we must adapt, and we must be mutable. Our studio generates a collaborative process allowing architect, client, and builder to come together as thinkers, people, and cohabitants of the modern world.
