Nicholas Cottrell

Nicholas Cottrell has a diverse work experience spanning multiple companies and roles. Nicholas started their career in 1995 as the founder and commercial director of Cyburbia Network Services, an Adelaide-based ISP. After selling off the dial-up customer base, the company continued to provide web hosting services.

In 2001, Cottrell worked as a Project Manager at OZ.com until 2002.

Nicholas then joined Hex Software as a Consultant from January to May 2003, before moving on to International IDEA where they worked as a Consultant from November 2003 to December 2016.

In 2012, Cottrell founded Sprawk, a company focused on breaking down language barriers in business. The company utilized machine translation engines and professional human translators using crowd-sourcing and automatic task assignment. Nicholas served as Founder till September 2019.

Cottrell also had a significant tenure at Transmachina, a company where they were the Owner from June 2003 to August 2020.

Since 2017, they have been working at MongoDB in various roles. Nicholas started as a Senior Consulting Engineer from October 2017 to July 2018. Nicholas then became a Senior Technical Services Engineer from August 2018 to July 2020. Later, they served as a Program Manager, Technical Services from August 2020 to September 2022. Currently, they hold the position of Manager, Internal Education starting from August 2022.

Nicholas Cottrell has a diverse education history. Nicholas obtained an MBA degree in International Finance from Saïd Business School, University of Oxford in 2005. In the same year, they also completed an M.Sc. degree in Speech and Language Technology from Macquarie University.

In 2000, Nicholas earned three bachelor's degrees from Bond University, Queensland. Nicholas received a B.IT degree in Computer Science, a B.IB degree in International Business with a focus on French and Spanish, and a B.Com degree in Finance and Strategy. Additionally, they obtained a B.IT degree in Information Technology from Bond University.

Throughout their career, Nicholas has pursued various certifications to enhance their skills. Nicholas completed the Natural Language Processing Nanodegree program and the Machine Learning Engineer Nanodegree program from Udacity in 2019. Nicholas also holds certifications such as AWS Certified Developer - Associate from Amazon Web Services and the MongoDB Certified DBA Associate Exam and MongoDB Certified Developer Associate Exam from MongoDB, Inc. In 2021, they obtained the KCS v6 Fundamentals certification from The KCS Academy.
