Monkey Fist Adventures was founded by Billy Taylor and Alex Mason. Two very ordinary people who happened to fall in love with extraordinarily hard adventures. Between them they've rowed the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans, crossed continents by foot, bike and motorcar, and spent more nights than they'd like to admit somewhere the nearest humans were the astronauts on the International Space Station.

They also remember how hard it was to start. Working out where to get good information, what kit actually matters, who to trust and how to fund it is often harder than the adventure itself. So Monkey Fist Adventures exists to close that gap, making ocean rowing, and adventure more broadly, accessible to anyone with the drive to try, whatever their age, background or experience.

Right now, that mission looks like three things:

BRAIN WAVES (2026) ~ Billy is currently skippering a crew of four on a non-stop, unsupported row from Australia to Kenya, around 5,500 miles by human power, raising money and awareness for Race Against Dementia and Rock 2 Recovery.

ATLANTIC DASH ~ our flagship ocean rowing event. 3,200 miles, Canary Islands to Antigua, organised by a team with seven ocean crossings between them. It's the way in for anyone serious about testing themselves at sea.

INDIAN OCEAN CHALLENGE 2028 ~ the first-ever open team event across the Indian Ocean. 3,700 miles, Australia to Mauritius, teams of two or more, organised by people who've rowed it themselves.

We believe adventure should be judged on effort, not entry requirements. No support vessel doesn't mean no support system. We're building the community, the funding know-how and the practical advice that get people from "I'd love to do that one day" to an actual start line.

Follow along, or get in touch if you fancy finding out what you're made of.
