Lead User Researcher at Monzo

Luke Kelly has a diverse work experience spanning various industries and roles. Luke is currently working as a Lead User Researcher at Monzo Bank since February 2021. Before that, Luke co-founded Filo, an online repository for design research, where they led the research and development efforts from January 2020 to April 2021.

Prior to Filo, Luke worked at Shell as Head of Research from December 2018 to January 2020, where they established and managed the research team for Shell's e-commerce platform. Luke also served as a Lead User Researcher at Shell from July 2018 to December 2018.

Luke's experience includes working at Farfetch as a Lead UX Researcher from August 2017 to July 2018, and at the Department for Education as a Lead User Researcher from December 2016 to June 2017. Earlier in their career, they were a User Researcher at the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) from July 2015 to December 2016.

Luke started their career as a Design Researcher at STBY Design Research for Service Innovation in 2009, where they worked until 2015 while also pursuing their doctoral studies. Luke has continued to collaborate with STBY on a freelance basis, working on projects for various clients such as Microsoft, Philips, and Nesta.

In 2014, Luke worked as a Researcher in Residence at Spread the Word, a charity focused on supporting aspiring writers, where they explored the opportunities in the video games industry and produced a report titled "Connecting Stories." Previously, they worked as a Lecturer at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, where they designed and taught a module on International Relations.

Luke Kelly completed their education from 2006 to 2007 at the University of Liverpool, where they earned a Master's degree in Politics and the Mass Media with a focus on Communication and Media Studies. Following this, from 2012 to 2017, Luke pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at Birkbeck, University of London, specializing in English Literature with a focus on British and Commonwealth literature.
