Tokyo Transformation Lead at Moon Creative Lab

Lance Hewett has extensive work experience in various roles and industries. Lance is currently working as an Instructional Design Lead at Moon Creative Lab since September 2021. Prior to this, they worked at Rakuten from May 2019 to August 2021, where they held the position of Senior L&D Specialist, Instructional Designer, Trainer, and Coach. In this role, they were responsible for designing and executing learning and development initiatives worldwide, focusing on Design Thinking promotion, ideation workshops, and coaching programs for executives.

From August 2010 to April 2019, Lance worked at SunFlare as a Translator and Native Checker, undertaking translation and editing projects from Japanese to English. Their responsibilities included translating various documents such as manuals, contracts, press releases, advertising copy, and websites.

Before SunFlare, Lance was associated with ALC Press, Inc. from May 2008 to April 2019. Lance served as the Leader of the R&D Team in the Quality Assurance Department. During this period, they played a vital role in creating learning programs for universities and corporations. Lance managed large-scale university programs, developed programs for Japanese and multinational companies, and designed educational mobile apps. Additionally, they also worked as a Corporate Trainer and Instructional Designer, providing critical business communication skills training to a Japanese trading company.

In November 2009, Lance founded Last Leaf Translations, a translation company specializing in cultural and literary translations from Japanese to English. Lance worked on numerous projects, translating works on Japanese history, popular culture, manga, biographies, and more.

Lance Hewett holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Curtin University, with a focus on Cultural Studies/Critical Theory and Analysis. Lance has also obtained additional certifications in design thinking from IDEO U, including Foundations in Design Thinking, From Ideas to Action, and Insights for Innovation. The certifications were obtained in 2020, with Foundations in Design Thinking and From Ideas to Action obtained in December, and Insights for Innovation obtained in October.
