Moonshot Initiative is a New York-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that has been advancing gender equity in film and television since 2018 — formerly known as Women's Weekend Film Challenge.

We believe the stories we tell become the world we build. And right now, the people building those stories don't reflect the world we live in. We're here to change that.

Since our founding, we've developed a full ecosystem of career-building programs for women and gender-expansive creators at every stage:

🎬 Film Challenge — We place emerging filmmakers onto fully resourced production crews, providing $1M+ in professional cinema gear and production insurance at no cost. 1,100+ participants have built their reels and their networks through this program.

📺 Pilot & Feature Accelerators — Emerging TV writers and screenwriters develop their IP and pitch directly to top studios and development executives, including HBO and Netflix. Over 2,000 people have applied to our accelerators.

🎓 Courses & Workshops — Online classes that advance craft, career, and community for underrepresented voices. 25,000+ workshop attendees to date.

🤝 Network Events — Live and virtual mixers in New York and Los Angeles connecting filmmakers, writers, and crew so they can find collaborators and build lasting careers together.

Across all programs: 53% of our participants are people of color. 32% identify as queer. We are building the industry that the industry should already be.

We are actively seeking funders, sponsors, and partners who share our belief that better stories require more voices behind the camera.

More voices. Better stories.
