During Covid, we started helping people make proper bread at home. Real grain, real time, real care. No shortcuts.

That simple idea — that food should be made with care — became the organising principle behind everything we do. It's why we don't use chemical accelerators or industrial shortcuts. It's why, at the heart of everything we make, is Alfonsina, our centenarian "pasta madre" (sourdough starter) — a living culture that reminds us to treasure and apply generations of knowledge about how food should be grown, made, and shared.

As the environment changed we started a bakery built on care. 

Today, Motherdough is a fermentation-led food system — and we've proven it works. Our model delivers 100% natural, clean-label staples consistently, without compromising on quality.

Now we're scaling. We're actively exploring partnerships and opportunities to bring what we've built in Franschhoek to more tables across South Africa — and beyond.

Our ambition is straightforward: to put a loaf on every family's table that they can actually trust.
