Winfred Amia is a seasoned veterinary professional with extensive experience in public health and anti-microbial resistance (AMR) initiatives. Currently serving as a Regional One Health Specialist-AMR at Mott MacDonald since April 2019, Winfred focuses on improving AMR surveillance in low- and middle-income countries through a One Health approach. Previous roles include training Community Animal Health Workers with USAID, interning at the Uganda Virus Research Institute addressing zoonotic diseases, and serving as a Public Health Fellow in collaboration with Makerere College of Health Sciences and the US CDC. Winfred has also gained substantial experience in veterinary consultancy, research, and clinical epidemiology through positions at various organizations, including the International Livestock Research Institute and Animal Care Centre Entebbe. Academic qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Medicine from Makerere University, postgraduate diplomas in Veterinary Epidemiology from the Royal Veterinary College and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and a Master's degree in Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics from Makerere University.
