Dan Carson

Dan Carson re*red June 1, 2010, from Appalachian Power Company, a regional subsidiary of American Electric Power Company (AEP). Carson joined Appalachian Power in 1970 aGer gradua*ng from Virginia Tech with a degree in civil engineering. He was appointed vice president of the Company in 1992, and Virginia-Tennessee president in 1996. Carson earned a master of business administra*on degree in 1977 from Lynchburg College and a master of science in management from MassachusePs Ins*tute of Technology in 1982, following a year of study as an Alfred P. Sloan Fellow. Prior to his re*rement, he was a registered professional

engineer. Carson served as chairman of the board of directors of the Virginia Chamber of Commerce, chairman and director emeritus of the Western Virginia Founda*on for the Arts and Sciences, and board chair for the Roanoke Valley Business Council, the Washington County Chamber of Commerce, and Roanoke Country Club. He also served in leadership capaci*es for the Virginia Manufacturers Associa*on, the Virginia College Fund, the Virginia Founda*on for Independent Colleges, and a number of Roanoke area organiza*ons. Carson served as 2009 campaign chair for the Roanoke Valley United Way. He is a member of the Virginia Tech College of Engineering’s “CommiPee of 100”, and in 2007 was inducted as a member of the Academy of Dis*nguished Alumni of the Via Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Tech. He was inducted into the College’s Academy of Engineering Excellence in 2014
