Stuart H. Kurkowski

CTO at MSB Cybersecurity

Dr. Stuart H. Kurkowski is currently the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for MSB Associates, a cybersecurity company providing consulting services to both Federal and private-sector clients. Dr. Kurkowski, in addition to his many duties as the CTO, is managing the company’s R&D branch, which is currently developing several new cutting-edge tools to support and streamline Information Assurance in commercial and federal networks.

Dr. Kurkowski recently retired from the US Air Force as the Deputy Department Head and Assistant Professor of Computer Science, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT). As Deputy Head, he led 33 PhD level Professors, over 100 MS and PhD students, conducting research in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He was also a staff member for the Center for Cyberspace Research. His research included conducting credible network simulations and producing accurate reliable research results to speed the fielding of critical operational capabilities. During his career, he also developed a network visualization tool called iNSpect (integrated NS-2 protocol and environment confirmation tool) that has been shared with over 400 research groups in over 40 countries. Over the years, Dr. Kurkowski also worked on highly successful network visualization efforts for cyber situational awareness. Throughout his Air Force career, he led, supported, and/or developed several major, mission-critical, software systems designed to enhance the day-to-day operations of field personnel.

Dr. Kurkowski entered the Air Force in 1991 receiving his commission through the United States Air Force Academy. He served in both operational and staff positions in the computer and communications systems fields; also serving as the senior manager for several large scale acquisitions, space operations, and major software testing efforts. His last operational assignment in the Air Force was as the Senior Advisor, Iraqi Training and Advisory Mission, at the largest Iraqi base - Camp Taji. Due to his extraordinary skills, education, and experience; he became the CTO at MSB, Associates, in 2011.
