Sam Block

Sam Block is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in ESG research and engineering. Currently serving as VP of ESG Research at MSCI Inc. since October 2009, Sam specializes in assessing investment risks related to environmental, social, and governance issues within the materials sector, specifically focusing on metals, mining, energy, paper, forestry, and packaging industries. Prior to this role, Sam worked at Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems as a Manufacturing/Environmental Engineer, where responsibilities included improving production processes, conducting environmental management audits, and analyzing sustainable facility solutions. Sam also gained valuable experience through an internship at Caterpillar Inc., focusing on global procurement and cost-saving projects. Sam holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Management and Planning from The Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering from The Ohio State University.
