Cathy Cantilena

Cathy Cantilena is a senior clinical advisor currently at the National Institutes of Health, where they continue to leverage over 35 years of expertise in internal medicine, hematology, and transfusion medicine. A graduate of the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth, Cathy trained at the NIH and has held significant leadership roles, including medical director positions at the Greater Chesapeake and Potomac American Red Cross Blood Services and BRT/Rh Laboratory. From 1989 to 2023, Cathy served as a staff clinician and senior research physician at the NIH, where they directed the Transfusion Medicine Fellowship. Their extensive experience also includes overseeing public health initiatives and educational programs in transfusion safety and donor care.
