Jim Baker

Associate Vice President For Research at Michigan Technological University

Jim Baker has a vast and diverse work experience, starting in 1994 at Michigan Technological University. Jim held various leadership positions, including Associate Vice President for Research and Co-Director for Entrepreneurship. At the university, they served as Executive Director of Innovation and Industry Engagement and Director of Technology and Economic Development. Before joining the university, Jim worked as the Assistant Director for Corporate Development and Software Product Manager/Engineer. In 2007, they became a member of the Board of Directors at Aursos Inc. and later joined the Upper Peninsula Workforce and Rural Development Inc. as a member of the Board of Directors. In 2016, Jim co-founded Iverson Outdoors, Inc., where they served as Vice President for Customer Engagement. Additionally, they also worked as a Secretary at MTRI Inc.

Jim Baker completed their education at Michigan Technological University. Jim obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Engineering from 1989 to 2003, followed by a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from 1993 to 1994. Jim then went on to earn a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from 1999 to 2005. Additionally, Jim has obtained certifications as a Patent Agent from the USPTO in 2004 and as a Certified Licensing Professional in 2016.
