Mike Irish

Mike Irish is an accomplished music educator and leader in jazz studies, currently serving as the Associate Professor of Music at Michigan Technological University since August 1991. As head of the Music Division, Mike administers and teaches the Jazz Studies Program, which encompasses two large jazz ensembles, four jazz combos, and a 19th-century music minor in Jazz Idiom. Prior to this, Mike was the Director of Jazz Studies and Associate Professor of Music at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point from September 1983 to May 1991, and worked as a music teacher in elementary, junior high, and senior high instrumental music education at Wisconsin Rapids Public Schools from September 1977 to May 1982. Mike holds a Master of Music Education degree in Jazz Education from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (1981-1983) and a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Northern Michigan University (1975-1977).
