Thomas Werner is a distinguished academic with a robust background in genetics and developmental biology. Currently a professor at Michigan Technological University since August 2010, Thomas has held positions as both associate and assistant professor of Genetics and Developmental Biology. Prior experience includes serving as a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where research focused on the evolution of wing pigmentation patterns in fruit flies and the establishment of transgenic techniques in non-model organisms. Earlier academic work at Umeå University involved the discovery of the Peptidoglycan Recognition Protein family in Drosophila melanogaster and contributions to insect immunology. Thomas earned a Master of Arts in Biology from Friedrich Schiller University Jena between 1991 and 1997.
