Mark Venables

Mark Venables' work experience begins with their current role as the Head of Data Platforms at MuchBetter, where they started in November 2022. Prior to this, they worked at MuchBetter as a Principal Data Engineer from April 2021 to October 2022.

Before joining MuchBetter, Mark worked at Manx Telecom as a Data & Analytics Manager from February 2019 to April 2021, and as a Database Administrator from April 2018 to February 2019.

From November 2016 to April 2018, Mark worked as a Software Engineer at Derivco Isle of Man.

Prior to that, Mark worked at Manx Telecom for nearly 10 years, starting as a Billing System Administrator in January 2007 and working in that role until November 2016. In this role, they focused on Oracle 11g Database Administration and also utilized SQL and PL/SQL scripting for financial reporting using Crystal Reports XI.

Before their time at Manx Telecom, Mark worked as a Freelance Web Developer from May 2004 to December 2006, specializing in back-end web development using PHP and MySQL, as well as front-end development with XML, CSS, and Flash technologies.

Additionally, Mark gained work experience as a Junior Oracle DBA at Hansard International from February 2003 to September 2003 during their HND studies. Mark worked with Oracle 8i to develop back-end databases for internal HR applications and utilized HTML and PERL for front-end reporting on the data.

Mark Venables has a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Liverpool, which they obtained from 2002 to 2004. Prior to that, they completed a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Computer Information Systems from Isle of Man College from 2000 to 2002. Before their HND, they completed an Advanced General National Vocational Qualification (GNVQ) in Information Technology from Isle of Man College from 1998 to 2000.

In addition to their formal education, they have obtained several certifications. Mark received the CDVP2 - Certified Data Vault 2.0 Practitioner certification from the Data Vault Alliance in December 2019. In November 2019, they obtained the Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals certification. In November 2018, they achieved the MCSE: Data Management and Analytics certification from Microsoft. Mark also obtained the same MCSE certification in October 2017. Prior to that, in April 2017, they obtained the MCSA: SQL Server 2012/2014 certification and the MCPS: Microsoft Certified Professional certification in January 2017, both from Microsoft.
