Sheldon A. Jacobs

Sheldon A. Jacobs, PsyD, LMFT, is a member of the NAMI Board of Directors and the owner of Dr. Sheldon A. Jacobs Counseling Services, where he provides clinical assessments, individual, couples, group and family therapy, EAP services and consultative services. He is the current Vice President of NAMI Southern Nevada.

He first learned about NAMI through a family member's mental health crisis back in 1999. The family member was attending a peer-to-peer support group and invited Sheldon to attend with him. The family member credited NAMI for saving his life. This has led Sheldon to work so NAMI remains inclusive of all individuals that experience mental health conditions across the spectrum.

In addition to his work with NAMI, he has worked for Clark County in the juvenile justice and child welfare settings for over 12 years and helped to advocate for "mental health days" for students in Nevada, which became law in July 2021. Dr. Jacobs also serves as a clinical fellow with the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapists (AAMFT).

Dr. Jacobs earned his BA in Communications and his English Minor from Ohio State University; his masters in Marriage and Family Therapy, and his doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy from Alliant International University.

For the 2022-2023 Board year, Sheldon serves on the Board Policy & Governance Committee and Youth & Young Adults Mental Health Outreach Workgroup.
