John Bruno

Principal Scientist & Director of Biotechnology at Nanohmics

John Bruno has extensive experience in the biotechnology field. John began their career in 1986 as a Graduate Student/Research Assistant at the University of Arizona, where they conducted image analysis of retinoic acid-induced differentiation of HL-60 myeloid leukemia cells. From 1991 to 1993, they were a Postdoctoral Associate at the United States National Research Council, where they investigated non-thermal microwave radiation effects on mammalian and bacterial cells. In 1993, they joined the U.S. Air Force as a Research Microbiologist (GS-13) at the Armstrong Laboratory, Crew Systems Directorate. John then worked as an Adjunct Faculty Instructor at Palo Alto College in 1992. From 1995 to 1999, they were a Research Microbiologist at ARA, where they were responsible for R & D of novel molecular recognition elements for biosensors. From 1999 to 2003, they were the Vice President of Biosensors & Biochemical Systems at SPEC (Systems & Processes Engineering Corp). During this period, they were also in charge of writing government BAA, SBIR, and STTR proposals and conducting cutting edge R & D for DNA Aptamer-based therapeutic, diagnostic, and biosensor technologies. From 2003 to 2006, they were the Chief Science Officer at Operational Technologies Corporation (OpTech), where they accrued ~$11M in government contracts. John also provided patented aptamer intellectual property for ApolloDx/CibusDx in Utah. From 2006 to 2018, they were an Adjunct Professor at Northwest Vista College, where they taught evening courses in biotechnology and received two Adjunct Faculty Excellence in Teaching Awards. In 2018, they became the Principal Scientist & Director of Biotechnology at Nanohmics.

John Bruno completed a B.S. in Microbiology with a Chemistry Minor from the University of Arizona in 1985, followed by a Ph.D in Microbiology; Immunology from the same university in 1991.
