Marcel Buen's work experience includes various roles and responsibilities in different companies.
At Nansen, Marcel is currently the Engineering Manager leading the Scalability team within Attribution. The team tackles a wide range of problems related to blockchain data, EVM, Solidity, Python, SQL, BigQuery, Google Cloud (GCP), Clickhouse (CH), python microservices, dbt, jinja, Retool, Git, and Airflow.
Prior to Nansen, Marcel worked at Element Energy as a Consultant/Software Developer. In this role, Marcel built, optimized, and ported Python models for clean energy systems uptake forecasting. These models are currently used by the UK and the Irish governments for policy decision-making.
Marcel also has experience as a Research/Data Engineer at Nansen and a Research/Data Engineer - subteam lead at Nansen.
Before their work at Element Energy and Nansen, Marcel completed an MSc Thesis on innovation in the energy field and future scenarios at Imperial College London.
Marcel gained research experience as an MRes Dynamics of Living Systems Research Intern at the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG), where they analyzed gene knockouts and media acidity's effects on the aging process in C. Elegans. Marcel also built and improved hardware for C. Elegans research.
Additionally, Marcel worked as an MRes Lloret-Fillol Lab Research Intern at ICIQ, where they designed, synthesized, and studied novel manganese-based coordination complexes for electrocatalytic reduction of carbon dioxide.
Marcel attended a Summer School at Tsinghua University, where they have gained additional knowledge and experience.
Marcel co-founded EastandWest Events, an organization focused on organizing university events for Physics and Chemistry students to connect with each other.
Marcel also gained research intern experience at The University of Tokyo and the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology, where they worked on projects related to quantum systems and Bose-Einstein condensates.

Marcel Buen has a diverse education history. Marcel obtained a Master of Science in Sustainable Energy Futures from Imperial College London in the academic years 2018-2019. Prior to that, Marcel pursued a Master of Multidisciplinary Research in Experimental Sciences from Universitat Pompeu Fabra, from 2017 to 2018. In their undergraduate studies, Marcel earned a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Physics from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona from 2012 to 2017. Additionally, they also hold a Bachelor of Science (Hon) in Chemistry from the same university. Marcel has also earned a certification called "Becarios Fundación 'la Caixa'" from Fundación 'la Caixa' in January 2018.
