Narrative Oakland is an Oakland-based vintage design collective redefining how we experience timeless design. Since opening its doors in 2016, Narrative has grown into the Bay Area’s largest vintage collective, located in the historic Oakland Iron Works building in Jack London Square. Founded by Vanessa Murray, whose lifelong passion for design began at a young age hunting for vintage treasures, antiques, and rare books with her father – an antiquarian bookseller in the Pacific Northwest – Narrative reflects a deep-rooted love for history and craftsmanship. Auctions, estate sales, and flea markets have always been in her blood, shaping her eye for exceptional pieces and inspiring the vision behind Narrative.

Today, Narrative brings together a diverse yet cohesive group of seasoned dealers who share the same commitment to sourcing rare and beautiful pieces from the Post-War era through Post-Modern design – objects that tell stories of the past while seamlessly fitting into modern living. Every item is carefully selected from across the globe to combine artistry, sustainability, and authenticity. At Narrative, we believe great design tells a story, and every piece in our collection is chosen to inspire and elevate the spaces it inhabits.
Owner Vanessa Murray’s love for vintage design has been the driving force to bring together a diverse yet cohesive group of vintage dealers who source classic pieces of design from the past that you will want to live with well into the future.

Each piece at Narrative has been hand selected by one of Narrative’s experienced vintage buyers whose mission is to find the best pieces from far and wide that will continue to bring sustainable beauty to its new home as it becomes part of your story.
