J. Michael Schmidt

J. Michael Schmidt has a diverse work experience spanning several decades. In 1986, they joined The Foundation for Community Encouragement as a Community Building Facilitator and Trainer, where they focused on fostering authentic communication, respecting diversity, and addressing difficult issues. In 2004, Schmidt transitioned to the role of Assistant Professor at Columbia University Medical Center, specializing in leveraging patient monitoring data for personalized medicine in critical care. In 2005, they joined the Leadership and Empowerment Institute Inc. as a Community Building Facilitator, addressing issues related to poverty, social and economic justice. Most recently, in 2016, Schmidt became the Chief Community Scientist at NationBuilder.

J. Michael Schmidt has a strong educational background in psychology and biostatistics. J. Michael obtained their Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Psychology from Michigan State University in the years 1989 to 1993. J. Michael then pursued their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Neuropsychology at The Graduate Center, City University of New York, from 1994 to 2003. Later, they attended Columbia University from 2009 to 2011, where they obtained a Master of Science (MS) degree in Biostatistics.

In addition to their academic qualifications, J. Michael Schmidt has also obtained several certifications. J. Michael received a Brain-Based Coaching Certificate from the NeuroLeadership Institute in December 2020. In January 2022, they obtained an Associate Certified Coach (ACC) certification from the International Coaching Federation. Additionally, they received the ICF Member Badge from the International Coaching Federation in August 2021.
