Ben Johnson

Ben Johnson is an experienced editorial and publishing professional currently serving as Chief Editor of Nature Health at Nature Portfolio, overseeing the launch of a new journal focused on public, global, and population health. Prior to this role, Ben held the position of Magazine Editor for Nature Medicine, where responsibilities included commissioning and editing content for a leading journal in the translational and clinical research community. Other significant roles include serving as Head of Communities & Engagement at Springer Nature, where Ben developed online community platforms and managed relationships with strategic partners, as well as consulting for Nature Medicine during the COVID-19 pandemic. Ben's earlier experience includes leadership positions at BioMed Central, focusing on journal acquisitions in biological sciences, and academic roles as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Imperial College London and Postgraduate Clinical Scientist at the Health Protection Agency. Educational qualifications include a PhD in Innate Immune Response to Influenza Virus from the University of Reading and a first-class BSc in Virology from the University of Warwick.
