The NBL-United States was a professional basketball league in the United States established in 1937. After the 1948–49 season, its twelfth, it merged with the Basketball Association of America (BAA) to create the National Basketball Association (NBA). Five current NBA teams trace their history back to the NBL: the Atlanta Hawks, the Detroit Pistons, the Los Angeles Lakers, the Philadelphia 76ers, and the Sacramento Kings. 

The NBL was revived in 2019 and is currently the only FIBA-recognized league in the United States. The NBL was rebranded in 2019 as an off-season International professional tour league with 6 teams and has experienced exponential growth featuring an International Partnership with NBL-Philippines, Singapore, England, and Jamaica. The NBL is the first Exposure League to have an official partnership with leagues outside the United States.
