Andrew Smith, Ed.D., is a current Policy Advisor for the North Carolina Senate, supporting legislative innovation in education, healthcare, and judiciary reform. They have previously served as the Deputy State Superintendent for the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, where they led the Division of Innovation and managed a budget exceeding $90 million. Andrew has also held roles as an Assistant Superintendent and Chief Administrative Officer, directing key educational initiatives and overseeing strategic planning in Rowan-Salisbury Schools. Additionally, they have experience as an adjunct professor at multiple universities, teaching courses in educational policy and technology integration. Andrew earned their Doctor of Education from Johns Hopkins University, focusing on entrepreneurial leadership in education.
