Katy Winterborn

Katy Winterborn has a diverse work experience, starting with their role at BAE Systems in 2006, where they were involved in writing software to automate calibration processes for nuclear sensors. In 2007, they worked as a Research Assistant at BAE's Advanced Technology Centre, where they analyzed and improved image registration software. Katy also automated the process of capturing and analyzing images in real-time.

Following their time at BAE, Katy joined the UK Government as a Summer Placement in 2008 and 2009, where they worked on provisioning virtual environments and gathering user requirements for IT services. In 2010, they joined the UK Government as an Intrusion Analyst, where they monitored and investigated attacks on major networks while collaborating with various teams to enhance detection capabilities.

Katy then moved on to Context Information Security in 2012, starting as an Analyst and later becoming a Consultant. In this role, they focused on delivering security assessments and developing training for junior intelligence analysts.

Since 2015, Katy has been working at NCC Group, initially as a Senior Security Consultant, performing penetration tests and developing skills in exploit development. Katy later served as a Principal Security Consultant, leading complex projects and providing support to junior staff. From 2021 to 2023, they held the role of Global Practice Lead, ensuring product quality, understanding regional challenges, and developing career pathways for consultants. Currently, they serve as the Head of Security at NCC Group.

Katy Winterborn attended the University of York from 2005 to 2010, where they earned their MMath degree in Maths and Computer Science.
