Rusty Thompson

Rusty Thompson, PE, PTOE, brings extensive experience in traffic engineering and transportation project management. As the Transportation Projects Director at Mott MacDonald from June 2015 to June 2023, Rusty demonstrated a deep passion for traffic engineering, leveraging expertise from previous roles. Prior positions include serving as the Engineering & Infrastructure Director for the City of Fayetteville, overseeing multiple engineering functions, and as the Assistant Division Traffic Engineer for the NC Department of Transportation, managing operational tasks across eight counties. Rusty's career began at NCDOT where responsibilities included responding to legislative and community requests and implementing safety-related roadway projects. Rusty holds an AAS in Civil Engineering from Fayetteville Technical Community College.
