David Carrera is the Co-Founder, CTO, and Chairman of NearbyComputing SL, where they lead the development of Nearby One, an all-in-one platform for setting up, managing and automating hybrid, heterogeneous and distributed IT systems, networks, applications, and defining and executing complex value-added end-to-end services. They are an Associate Professor at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, currently on extended leave. From 2005 to 2015, they were an Associate Researcher at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center and served as Head of the Datacentric Computing research group; they also held the position of Senior Researcher Part Time there. Earlier in their career, they worked as an IT Consultant at BellMoore Consulting (2000-2001) and as a Visiting Research Scholar at IBM Research (2012). They earned a PhD in Computer Science from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (2002-2008).
