Steven Maage

Steven Maage is an experienced professional in the fields of nuclear engineering, radiation physics, and academia. Currently serving as the Manager of Reactor Production & Operations at Necsa since August 2015, Steven oversees operations at the SAFARI-1 Research Reactor and manages production and delivery of nuclear fuel elements. Additionally, in the role of Section Head for Nuclear Safety & Technology, Steven directs safety compliance and technological advancements for the reactor. Since February 2024, Steven has been a lecturer at North-West University, teaching Nuclear Reactor Technology. Prior roles include Senior Physicist at NTP Radioisotopes SOC Ltd. and Senior Nuclear Engineering Analyst at PBMR(Pty) Ltd., along with significant research positions at iThemba LABS and various academic institutions. Steven holds a PhD in Nuclear Engineering from North-West University and has actively contributed to the field through research, conference presentations, and the development of safety protocols in nuclear operations.
