Daniel Runnals

Principal, Senior Consultant at NEPC

Dan is a senior member of Taft-Hartley Practice Team, and works with a variety of client types including Taft-Hartley plans, international family offices and U.S. corporations. Dan began working at NEPC as a Performance Analyst in 2011, which provided him with an in-depth knowledge of NEPC’s performance measurement systems and capabilities. He transitioned to focus on consulting in 2013. Dan specializes in various technical projects such as manager searches, asset allocation, risk budgeting, and other client specific initiatives. His experience in different roles at NEPC provides him with a strong grasp of the resources available to help effectively manage client needs.

In addition to his client responsibility, Dan is a voting member of the Public Markets Due Diligence Committee, which is responsible for reviewing, vetting and approving all prospective traditional strategies as well as determining appropriate action following any manager due diligence events. Dan has been a key contributor on a variety of other business wide initiatives, including serving on the Branding Committee in 2020, and the Investment Performance Analytics Working Committee in 2021. He has been a speaker at various industry conferences including the National Labor and Management Conference, Institutional Investment Regional Roundtable, and the International Foundation for Employee Benefit Plans.

Prior to joining NEPC in 2011, Dan worked as a Financial Representative at Northwestern Mutual Financial Network. As a Financial Representative, Dan was responsible for marketing, sales and prospecting of his own financial practice focused on building financial security for individuals and businesses.

Dan earned his B.A. in Economics from Kenyon College, where he played football and lacrosse for the Lords. In 2010, he was inducted into the National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society for displaying excellence in both the classroom and on the field. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designations and is member of the CFA Society of Boston. He currently serves as an Associate Trustee for St. John’s Prep, an institution focused on developing young men. During his free time, he enjoys cycling, golfing, fishing, skiing and spending time traveling and exploring the outdoors with his wife and two sons.
