The National Economic & Social Council advises the Taoiseach and Government on strategic policy issues relating to sustainable economic, social and environmental development in Ireland. Next year's theme will be Social Cohesion. We have an exciting work programme planned and are delighted to be co-hosting an event with our EESC colleagues on this theme during the Irish Presidency of the European Union.

Established in November 1973, NESC has published reports on a wide range of areas including general economic and social policy, industrial policy, agriculture and rural development, housing, education, public services, the welfare system, well-being, Ireland in the European Union, climate change and wind energy. 

The members of NESC are appointed by the Taoiseach and comprise representatives from agricultural and farming organisations, business and employers’ organisations, the Irish Congress of Trade Unions, community and voluntary organisations and environmental organisations, as well as Heads of Government departments and independent experts.
