David M Nicol

Co Founder at Network Perception

David M Nicol has a long history of work experience. David M began their career in 1979 as a Programmer Analyst at Control Data Corporation. In 1985, they moved to ICASE as a Staff Scientist. From 1987 to 1996, they worked at the College of William and Mary as an Associate Professor of Computer Science, teaching courses in computer architecture, computational methods, computer programming, and discrete-event simulation, and conducting research in parallel algorithms, high performance computing, and large-scale discrete-event simulation. From 1996 to 2003, they worked at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign as a Professor, Director, and Herman M Dieckamp Endowed Chair in Engineering, teaching courses in computer systems analysis, computer security, and computer engineering, and carrying out research in the modeling and analysis of trustworthy systems and in development of virtualized testbeds for security research in cyber-physical systems for critical infrastructures. From 2003 to 2011, they worked as the Director of the Information Trust Institute at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In 2013, they co-founded Network Perception, and from 2011 to 2020, they worked as a Joint Appointee at the Idaho National Laboratory. Since 2020, they have been the Vice President for Securing Automation at the Cyber Manufacturing Innovation Institute, and a Member of the Board of Trustees at Shattuck-St. Mary's School, where they work with others on the Board to help guide the school in strategic thinking for maintaining and increasing its excellence.

David M Nicol received their PhD in Computer Science from the University of Virginia in 1985. David M received their BA in Mathematics from Carleton College in 1979. David M attended Shattuck School from 1973 to 1975, and prior to that, they attended Bemidji Senior High School.
