David Cates

David Cates has a diverse work experience that spans various roles and industries. David currently works as a Software Engineer at Network to Code since 2022.

Prior to that, David was associated with O'Reilly Media from 2015 to 2022. During their time there, they held two roles. Firstly, they served as an Online Event Producer, where they were responsible for preparing live training event rooms, uploading training materials, and coordinating changes with instructors. Additionally, they updated course information and external assets. Secondly, they worked as an Associate Video Producer, where they edited audio and video lessons recorded by programming and software development experts, with hundreds of hours of audio/video edited and published.

Before O'Reilly Media, David worked as a Freelance Video Professional from 2012 to 2015. In this role, they edited audio and video content recorded by industry experts, creating saleable instructional video products. David also provided training programs for new editors and offered mixing and mastering services for musical performances, videos, and films.

David's earlier experience includes a role as Fresh Assistant Manager at Sam's Club from 2009 to 2012. In this position, they managed 32 associates, including four supervisors, overseeing hiring, scheduling, and conducting supervisor leadership training courses. David also conducted research and developed production plans based on historical data.

David Cates has a Bachelor's degree in Music Industry Technology with a focus in Recording Arts from California State University, Chico. David is also self-educated in Computer Software Engineering. In 2021, they participated in the O'Reilly Media Engineering Mentorship program, where they furthered their studies in Computer Software Engineering.
