Brian Smith began their work experience in 2004 as an NSL Teacher for The Northwest Catholic District School Board. In 2008, they transitioned to become an Anishinaabe Language Coordinator for Seven Generations Education Institute until 2014. From 2014 to the present, they have held various roles including Curriculum Developer for Red Lake Band of Chippewas, Anishinaabeyo for Anishinaabejige, and currently Community Coordinator for New Gold Inc.
Brian Smith attended Lakehead University from 2002 to 2006, although the degree and field of study are unspecified. Subsequently, they pursued a Computer Technician degree at Lambton College. Lastly, they enrolled in the Aboriginal Cultural Interpretation Program at Sir Sanford College.
