Senior Manager of Family and Community Programs at Newfields

Sandra Schmidt has a diverse work experience in the museum and educational field. Sandra is currently working as the Senior Manager of Family and Community Programs at Newfields since May 2022. Prior to that, they served as the Public Programs Manager at The Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art from October 2019 to May 2022. Sandra also held the position of Public Programs Coordinator at Eiteljorg Museum from March 2015 to May 2022.

Before joining Eiteljorg Museum, Sandra worked as an Education Coordinator and Curator at Dickinson County Historical Society and Museum from September 2014 to March 2015, where they were responsible for updating and creating educational programs and curating the Jeffcoat Studio Photography Museum.

Sandra began their career at The Children's Museum of Indianapolis as a Gallery Facilitator from September 2010 to June 2013. Sandra also gained experience as a Visitor Experience Lead at Eiteljorg Museum from June 2012 to May 2013.

During their time at Conner Prairie from May 2011 to December 2011, Sandra worked as a Guest Experiences Intern, where they implemented new programming, conducted research and evaluation, and updated visitor materials. Sandra also contributed to the script used during the Headless Horseman event.

In addition, Sandra served as a Graduate Research Assistant at Indiana University - Purdue University Indianapolis from January 2011 to May 2011. Prior to that, they held multiple internships at The Mammoth Site of Hot Springs South Dakota during the summers of 2007, 2008, and 2009, where they gained experience in laboratory work, bone preparation, excavation, and interpretation.

Sandra Schmidt pursued their education, starting in 2006, by attending the University of Wyoming, where they obtained a Bachelor's degree in Anthropology in 2010. Following their undergraduate studies, they enrolled in Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis, where they completed a Master's degree in Museum Studies from 2010 to 2012.
