John Hooper

John Hooper has a diverse work experience spanning various industries. John started their career as a Photographer/Writer for Wake Magazine in 2008. John then worked as a Starbucks Student Manager at University Dining Services from 2008 to 2012. In 2012, they took on the role of Assistant Harbor Master at Benicia Marina, where they managed a dredging project and maintained public relations with marina residents. In 2013, they worked as a JavaScript Consultant as an independent contractor. John then joined the University of Minnesota in 2014 as a Web Developer, primarily focused on data visualization for the OpenKIM Project. John later worked as a Contract Software Engineer for Robert Half Technology, specializing in revamping old Dojo code and transitioning to Angular 1.8. In 2017, John became a Full Stack Engineer at NovuHealth, where they developed customer-facing solutions and created a demo version of the site using React and Redux. John then joined Newsela in 2018, initially as a Senior Web Application Developer and then as a Lead Software Engineer. At Newsela, John became a pioneer in accessibility and introduced Typescript to the engineering organization.

John Hooper completed their Bachelor's of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Minnesota from 2014 to 2016. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor's degree in Italian Studies from the same university from 2008 to 2012. In 2010 to 2011, they also attended Alma Mater Studiorum - Università di Bologna, although the degree and field of study are not specified.
