James Dondero

James Dondero is the founder and principal of NexPoint, an alternative investment platform headquartered in Dallas, Texas. NexPoint, which Mr. Dondero established in 2012, specializes in real estate and has evolved into a multibillion-dollar organization within a global investment network.

With more than thirty years of experience in alternative investments, James Dondero has built a number of integrated businesses for the purpose of managing investments in real estate, credit, and private equity, among other specialized areas. Mr. Dondero also holds a variety of director and executive leadership positions across NexPoint’s publicly traded REITs, which include NexPoint Residential Trust, NexPoint Real Estate Finance, NexPoint Hospitality Trust, and NexPoint Diversified Real Estate Trust.

James Dondero graduated from the University of Virginia McIntire School of Commerce in 1984 with a B.S. in accounting and finance. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Managerial Accountant (CMA), and has earned the right to use the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. In addition to his successful entrepreneurship, Mr. Dondero is a devoted philanthropist. He frequently contributes to nonprofit organizations with strategic initiatives to advance healthcare, education, veterans’ affairs, and community and economic development.
