Bart Preneel has extensive work experience, primarily at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven where they started as a postdoctoral researcher in February 1993. Bart later became a Full Professor in October 1999. Bart also holds various board and advisory positions in different organizations, including Approach Belgium, Tioga Capital Partners, nextAuth, and the Belgian Cyber Security Coalition. Additionally, they have been involved in leadership roles as the President of Leaders in Security LSEC vzw and as a Board Member of the International Association for Cryptologic Research (IACR). Bart has also been a Member of the Stakeholders Group at ENISA and has contributed to the field of cryptography.
Bart Preneel completed their engineering studies at KU Leuven from 1982 to 1987. Later on, from 1983 to 1993, they pursued a PhD in Engineering at the same institution.
